We know many of you are traveling long distances to celebrate with us, and we are so grateful! If you’re here for the long weekend, here are a few ideas on how to spend your time. We hope you enjoy California as much as we do!
Recommendations for a weekend in NorCal
In and around our favorite place, Sonoma
Breakfast at Sunflower Café (which may have a line but it usually moves fast) or the more casual Basque Café.
Rent a bike here or here and tootle to the town square, have an ice cream at Scoops, and then bike to …
… a few of our favorite wineries: Buena Vista Winery (need to book a tasting ahead), or Gundlach Bundschu (you can usually buy a bottle and sit in their picnic area)
Venture a little further to the Francis Ford Coppola Winery (a little more of a splurge, but worth it especially for movie buffs!) or Russian River Brewing (home of Pliny the Younger)
Point Reyes
Mini-hike to the historic lighthouse (birthplace of Todd’s obsession with foghorns)
Coffee, lunch, and shopping in Point Reyes Station
Have some famous Cowgirl Creamery cheese, and try a very California ice cream float, and let us know how it was!
Monte Rio / Guerneville
Have dinner in a 20s themed riverside inn, Boho Manor (Todd likes the chicken!) and maybe stay the night
Hang out by the river at Monte Rio Community Beach
San Francisco
Walk along the beach with a view of the Golden Gate and lots of dogs at Crissy Field (usually easy to park there)
Take a cute pic at the iconic Palace of Fine Arts (not, in fact, a palace and there are no fine arts)
Window shopping around Chestnut St. & Filmore St.
Best Italian sandwiches at Palermo Deli II
For a romantic dinner, L’ardoise in the Castro or Delfina in the Mission, for a more casual vibe, we also like La Mediterranee (Castro) or Donaji (Mission) (get the crickets!)
For night life, venture to the Mission and grab a cocktail at Cassanova, Wildhawk, Beehive; a glass of wine at 20 Spot, Shuggie’s, or Buddy; or a beer at Fort Point
